THE GREEN DISTRICT |
|
The district of Bryrup-Them lies in the very heart of Jutland, set in an extraordinary landscape, it is one of the most beautiful areas in Denmark. The countryside is lush and varied from rolling hills, valleys, lakes and streams, forests, and fertile grain fields to barren sand and heather slopes. The many forests have a lot of scenic places e.g. west of Bryrup where you find the look-outs "Velling Kalv" and "Velling Gavl" - this forest is the remains of a huge forest that once covered the whole area. North of Bryrup you find "Velling Skov" a forest characterised by its straight-grained beeches. Today, much of the poor soil has been turned into conifer plantations. However, you can still find the heaths of Jutland here, i.a. at Vrads Sande where a large area has been preserved. The district also contains sites of historical interest: beautiful churches, picturesque villages and small museums telling the story of ages past. Also more than 100 grave mounds from the Bronze Age (1500-500 B.C.) have been scattered in the area. Northwards, the district of Bryrup-Them stretches right to the lakes of Silkeborg including the small islands "Paradisøerne" and the lake "Slåensø" - one of the purest lakes in Denmark. Further, the district is centrally placed for day trips to other interesting places and attractions in Mid-Jutland. |
